NYS Saving the Earth One Box at a Time

Earth Day is this Sunday April 22. To celebrate we would like to share with you what NYS Collection is doing to reduce our carbon footprint.

NYS has already taken a giant step in our efforts to go green. Our currently eco-friendly plastic display boxes have gotten a makeover. The bottom of our boxes are now made from recycled cardboard. This will help save over 200,000 lbs of plastic per year! These boxes have already been launched across all of our locations nationwide.

Other efforts that we will be working on include a revamp of our current shopping bags. This includes canvas bags and other alternatives to the ones we traditionally use. Keep an eye out for more green things to come!

Behind the Scenes: Elite Photo Shoot

This past Friday, NYS Collection had a very exciting event. We had our first ever NYS Collection & Elite photo shoot. The location: Pier 17 at the South Street Sea Port in New York City. The backdrop: the Brooklyn Bridge. Many of the styles selected were ones that are featured on our retail website along with other new styles that are not yet available.

The first half of the photo shoot consisted of NYS Collection styles. The theme for the NYS Collection portion of the shoot was a relaxed everyday feel. The models were encouraged to do silly things and have fun. The second half of the shoot was for the NYS Collection exclusive Elite line. The models shined while showing the Elite attitude.

It’s Time To Spring Forward

If you haven’t already noticed, there have been some new styles added to our site. These new styles were hand selected to make sure our customers are up to date with the latest trends for Spring/Summer 2012. These new styles are located in our featured products section of the homepage (They are the first 5). What makes these new shades so hot?

The first style, #1980 is a classic aviator style with some added bling. It is just the right amount of sparkle to jazz up any outfit regardless of season. It also comes in a fun pink color which is a hot trend this spring.

The second style, #2732-17, is a twist on the very popular wayfarer style. The Revo lens and clear combo adds a summery edge to your look.

Spring Break: Look Good For Less

The thought of Spring Break might seem a little far off for most, but March is just around the corner. For those of you who will be whisked away to a tropical location, haven’t you spent enough on the trip itself? Looking great on vacation shouldn’t cost much. Shade Your Eyes All Year Round

True or False: You only need to wear sunglasses in the warmer months. False (just in case the title didn’t allude you to the answer). It is important to protect your eyes regardless of temperature.

Even though you may not be able to feel the warmth of the sun’s rays, they are still harmful. In the heart of winter you are exposed to double the UV exposure. Both UVA & UVB rays can still cause some serious damage to not only your eyes, but the skin around them too. The area of sensitive skin around your eyes can sustain a lot of sun damage if it’s not protected. Believe it or not when it snows that’s when the sun’s rays are strongest because they reflect off of the snow.

So what should you do? Shade your eyes year round, no matter what the temperature is. Make sure you choose styles that cover and protect them. A Shield style is a great way to go to protect yourself without sacrificing style.

You can even go a step further and try a Polarized lens. Polarized lenses will clarify any glare that may be caused by the sun reflecting off the snow or even just your car windshield.

Love Story

Every week NYS Collection hosts contests throughout our various social media networks. In honor of Valentine’s Day, yesterday on our Facebook page we held a contest for the best love story.

In order to win a free pair of sunglasses, anyone could write a short and sweet love story about themselves or someone else. The posts were not confined to just romantic love stories. A love story could have been anything that brings you that warm feeling of love. Of the posts, 3 were to be chosen in order of how many Likes! their story had. One in particular swept everyone away.

Here’s Francesca’s story:

I met my fiance my first month in college. I asked him out 3 months after we met by sending him on a scavenger hunt all over campus as well as the local McDonald’s. I was his present at the end and I handed him a not asking him to check yes or no if he would go out with me. Of course he said yes! Now its 5 years later and on New Years day he took me to NYC and proposed to me in front of everyone at Rockefeller Center, while we got pictures professionally taken in front of the tree. Of course I said yes! He is my best friend and the love of my life. We are soul mates and I didn’t need a ring to know we would be together for the rest of our lives. The rest of our lives together started the moment we met ♥

Got Candy?

Two Jerzdays ago the Snooki by Nicole Polizzi sunglasses debuted one of many new springs styles to come: Rock Candy. The Rock Candy style is black face frame with colored trim and flashy rhinestones. Yummy and Luscious! Rock Candy comes in six flavors that are sure to suit any of your moods: Boo-Boo Berry Pie, Grapette, Not So Sour Apple, Strawberry Shorty Cake, Sweet and Down Low, & TANgerine.

The princess of reality TV showed her fans a sneak peak via her Twitter account: “Sneak peak of my spring sunglasses line! Waahooooo! #boss #swag@SnookiShades” Shortly after the tweet was sent out the entire line temporarily sold out.

The preview of her line two weeks ago has all of her loyal fans ready for the rest of the spring line to be released. While there is no official launch date yet, spring is just around the corner.

It’s a close tie for the favorites, Strawberry Shorty Cake and Sweet and Down Low. What’s your favorite flavor?

NYS Collection joins in on Jingle Bell Run

Can you hear the bells?

Arthritis is the leading cause of disability in the United States.  So, this past weekend NYS Collection participated in the Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis in Metuchen, New Jersey.  Including the NYS team over 1,500 people participated by dressing up in holiday attire and tying jungle bells to their shoelaces for the 5k run/walk.

The even had three honorees. The female honoree was Teri Coleman a woman who lives with Osteoarthritis that manages to balance out her life even with two hip replacements. The male honoree was Tom Walter who lives with Rheumatoid Arthritis, but never gave up and actively runs three times a week and participates in challenging events such as the Jingle Bell Run/Walk.  The last honoree was the youth honoree Lauren Jandak.  Lauren is a young girl who lives with Juvenile inflammatory Arthritis.  Even though she has this condition she manages to still prusue her passion for ballet.

“We are thrilled at the response to our event and the awareness we were able to raise for children & adults living with arthritis.  As a ‘sold out’ event, we alreadt looking to 2012 for sponsors and how we can accommodate even more people.” – Nicole Lewis of the New Jersey Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation.

The event raised over $70,000.  89% of the donations received go to research and program services as well as future fundraising efforts to make a difference in not only the honorees lives, but all of those who live with arthritis.

NYS Collection was honored to be a part of this great cause.
